The Closest Farthest Away
(La Entrañable Lejanía)
Havana, Cuba, 2007
Workshop, 2008
US Premier, 2009
The Closest Farthest Away is a performance created by filmmakers, theater artists, and musicians from the US and Cuba who use cinema and live performance to cross impossible boundries between blockaded countries. All Cuban characters and locations were filmed in Havana and are projected onto a stage via multi-channel video installation to interact with American performers. This process driven social and artistic experiment was sponsored by Cuban National Television and the Cuban government along with the California Institute of the Arts, The American Composers' Forum, The Puffin Foundation, the Dalio Family Foundation, and many private individuals.
A workshop performance was completed in 2008 and a 2009 world premier is in the works.
