By Georg Büchner
California Institute of the Arts, 2006
An immersive durational adaptation of Woyzeck exploring the palimpsestic and fragmentary nature of Büchner’s original text. The play, never completed by Büchner, was discovered after his untimely 1837 death. It existed as a collection of drafts and fragments and wasn’t until decades later, after heavy editing by various authors, that the play would be first produced.
This production attempted to conjure the rawness and a-linearity of Büchner’s original text, and by doing so present the audience with a unique immersive theatrical installation to witness Woyzeck’s psychosis and murderous downfall.
